One new species of Dendronotus (Nudibranchia: Dendronotidae) is described from Norway and Northern Ireland and adjacent areas of the North Sea, and one new subspecies of Dendronotus arcticus is described from Norway. By applying a combination of fine morphology and molecular phylogenetic data, this study shows multi-layered morphological and molecular similarities and differences in three sympatric, externally similar taxa (D. yrjargul, D. arcticus gartensis n. subsp., D. keatleyae n. sp.) and in two externally divergent exotic subspecies (D. arcticus arcticus and D. arcticus gartensis n. subsp.). The genus type species D. frondosus — the most common Dendronotid in Norway and the UK — shows consistent and substantial molecular and fine-morphological differences from D. keatleyae n. sp. Beyond strict taxonomy, this study provides new data for a broader discussion of global biodiversity patterns.

— Abstract (translated)

Dendronotus frondosus was the original name attached to "sugino-ha-umiushi", but once DNA showed D. frondosus to be restricted to the North Atlantic, additional species have been described in steady succession.

Setting the taxonomy aside, Dendronotus yrjargul in particular looks amazing — I want to see one.
