Description

A medium-sized dotid nudibranch reaching about 30 mm in length. The body is yellowish-brown to dark brown, with fine white dots densely scattered across the surface. The cerata bear numerous warty protuberances and vary in colour between individuals from yellow-white to bluish white. The rhinophore sheaths are dish-shaped and match the cerata in colour. The rhinophores are smooth and rod-shaped, the same colour as the body, with fine white dots.

Distribution

Originally described from the Comoros Islands, Indian Ocean. Subsequently recorded broadly across the Indo-West Pacific, including Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and Japan.

Etymology

The specific epithet ussi is derived from the Latin uro ("to burn"); the original description states the name evokes "burning" or "to scorch".
