Description
In life the crawling animal reaches about 6 cm in length, with a height and width of around 1.5 cm. The dorsal ground colour is yellow-brown densely scattered with bluish-white dots. The wavy mantle margin is deep black all around, as is the foot border. The rhinophore stalks are brown with bluish-white dots; the clubs are bluish to dark grey-black with white dots along the leaf edges. The rhinophore club bears about 24 leaves; the gill consists of six larger anterior leaves with a tuft of eight smaller leaves on each side.Distribution
Type locality: Ile Marianne (near the Fouquets reef), off Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. Distributed across the western Indian Ocean. The "cf." designation indicates a form morphologically close to typical Glossodoris cincta but provisionally identified pending closer comparison with type-locality material.Etymology
The specific epithet cincta is the feminine past participle of Latin cingere ("to gird, encircle"), meaning "girdled". The conspicuous black mantle border evidently motivates the descriptive epithet.Remarks
Originally placed in Casella; the genus was subsumed into Glossodoris, establishing the current combination.References
