Description

A medium-sized Chromodorididae, holotype body length 30 mm in life. Body elliptical to elongate, smooth, soft; the foot forms a projecting tail posteriorly. The mantle has wavy margins, often with two major undulations on each side. A row of separated opaque-white mantle glands runs just inside the mantle border. About ten branchial plumes are arranged in an outer-curving spiral; pinnate, white outside, slightly greenish-white inside. Rhinophore clubs black; the tips and edges are opaque white. Oral tentacles are digitate.

Distribution

Holotype from Ogi, Toyama Bay (Japan Sea), Japan. The original type series also includes specimens from Sado Island, Ogi (Toyama Bay), and Echizen-misaki on the Echizen coast — primarily Sea-of-Japan localities.

Etymology

The specific epithet misakinosibogae means "the sibogae of Misaki". A specimen from Misaki, Sagami Bay had been recorded as Glossodoris sibogae (originally described from Timor, Indonesia), but the two were found to represent different species; the new taxon was established instead of "the sibogae of Misaki". The Japanese name "Jiboga-umiushi" refers to the Siboga (Jiboga) Expedition.

Remarks

Long confused with G. atromarginata, which it superficially resembles; the two were separated as distinct species on the basis of subsequent comparative anatomy.
