Description

Body elongate, flattened, narrowing posteriorly. The dorsum bears 12–23 longitudinal ridges that run nearly parallel to the midline but angle towards the mantle margin along the sides of the notum. The oral veil extends forward with blunt corners. Widely spaced rhinophores sit behind the oral veil with longitudinal lamellae on the rounded club; the stalk does not narrow noticeably.
Ground colour of the dorsum and dorsal ridges is white to bluish or orange. The oral veil and foot are opaque white with an orange frontal margin. Depressions between the ridges are light grey or orange with dark dots evenly spaced. Dark transverse bands cross the notum beginning approximately halfway from the anterior end. Dark spots of colour are evenly spaced along the mantle edge, and the mantle has a pinkish-orange border. Rhinophore stalks are white and the clubs are dark brown with opaque white to cream lamellae and apex.

Distribution

Okinawa (Japan), Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Type locality: Bethlehem, Maricaban Island, Batangas Province, Luzon, Philippines, 19 m.

Etymology

Verbatim from the original description (Gosliner & Fahey, 2011, p.311):
The specific name funiculus is from the Latin word for 'thin rope or cord' to describe the appearance of the longitudinal ridges of this species.

Remarks

Externally similar to the Japanese D. cymatilis and D. striatellus Baba, 1976 but distinguished by the dark transverse bands and radular morphology.
