Description

A white nudibranch about 25 mm long. A row of orange spots runs along the dorsal midline, and the processes along the mantle margin are tipped with orange; the rhinophores and gills are also orange. It is distinguished from the similar congener Limacia cockerelli by the row of orange spots down the middle of the back.

Distribution

Northeastern Pacific along the west coast of North America, from Salt Point in Sonoma County, California, south to Bahía de los Ángeles, Baja California, Mexico. The type locality is White’s Point, Palos Verdes, California.

Etymology

The specific epithet mcdonaldi was given by the authors in honour of the nudibranch specialist Gary McDonald.

Remarks

A bryozoan feeder. It was long confused with the similar Limacia cockerelli and was described as a distinct species in 2017.
