Description

A small aeolid nudibranch reaching about 8 mm in body length. Two orange longitudinal lines run across the upper head. The species is often observed together with the externally similar Herviella affinis, from which it can be distinguished by the absence of black dots on the dorsum (which are conspicuous in H. affinis).

Distribution

Type locality: Sagami Bay, Japan. The original description (Baba 1984) was based on specimens from Sagami Bay.

Etymology

The specific epithet akibai honours Tamio Akiba, who collected the type material.
