Kaloplocamus ramosus is at least two species — K. albopunctatus described, K. japonicus resurrected
Eda-umiushi has long been treated as a single species, Kaloplocamus ramosus (Cantraine, 1835). A paper now argues it is at least two species. Quick intro.

Kaloplocamus albopunctatus J.C. Wei & L.F. Kong, 2023
Body bright orange, with red spots over the whole body except the foot. Eight fan-shaped processes around the head. Four pairs of lateral processes on the dorsum, larger than the head processes. Gill with five leaves. Rhinophore sheaths short, scattered with orange spots. Posterior part of the foot long, sharply tapered, red-orange. Many opaque, sharp, white projections concentrated along the midline.
This newly described species is what the typical orange eda-umiushi we see day-to-day in Japan turns into.
