Family Clionidae 5 species
The family Clionidae Rafinesque, 1815 is a group of shell-less gymnosome pteropods, popularly known as "sea angels." The type genus is Clione Pallas, 1774. They have transparent bodies and a pair of fan-like parapodia for swimming, and feed exclusively on shelled pteropods (family Limacinidae) using extrusible buccal cones to grasp the prey shell. Distribution spans polar oceans, temperate waters, and tropical deep seas. Body length ranges from a few millimetres in juveniles to 50-80 mm in the largest species, Clione limacina. The body is typically translucent with pink or orange visceral pigments visible through the skin.
