Description

A small aeolid of the family Aeolidiidae. Cerata are arranged in several oblique rows along each dorsolateral margin. External morphology closely resembles species of Aeolidiella, so reliable identification rests on reproductive-system characters and molecular data.

Distribution

Type locality is Urubuqueçaba Island, Bay of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. The species has also been recorded from Australia, giving it a disjunct trans-oceanic distribution between the western Atlantic and the western Pacific.

Remarks

The genus Anteaeolidiella was separated from Aeolidiella following an integrative reassessment combining morphology with a three-marker molecular phylogeny by Carmona and colleagues. The species was originally described as Aeolidiella lurana by Ev. and Er. Marcus on Brazilian material.
