Description

A cadlinid dorid usually 25-40 mm long but reaching 80 mm. Body colour is white. The tubercles on the dorsum have yellow tips, and the mantle and foot margins, together with the tips of the gill plumes and rhinophores, are also yellow.

Distribution

Pacific coast of North America, from Lynn Canal in Alaska to Punta Eugenia in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Etymology

The specific epithet luteomarginata combines Latin luteus ("yellow") and marginata ("margined"), meaning "with yellow margins".

Remarks

Known in English as the Yellow-edged Cadlina. MacFarland originally described the species as Cadlina marginata in 1905, but renamed it luteomarginata in 1966 because of homonymy with another species. The species feeds on a range of sponges and is a familiar nudibranch to divers along the west coast of North America.
