Description

A small cylindrical-shelled cephalaspidean. Shell elongate and slender with the posterior end somewhat rounded, sculptured with rather distantly spaced spiral striae. Apex deeply umbilicated. Aperture narrow and linear, produced above and slightly dilated below. Columella callous anteriorly, bearing two plaits. Shell covered by a thin reddish-brown periostracum.

Distribution

Originally described from the China Sea, based on specimens in the Cuming collection. Currently recorded from the western Pacific including waters off Vietnam.

Etymology

The specific epithet biplicata is Latin for "twice-folded", in reference to the two plaits on the columella.

Remarks

A small bubble-shell of muddy-sand bottoms; in life the shell is covered by a thin periostracum.
