Description

A small sacoglossan (family Plakobranchidae) with a flattened body and a pair of wing-like parapodia. Feeds on green algae and sequesters their chloroplasts to maintain photosynthesis for a time.

Distribution

Originally described from the east coast of Australia. Subsequent records include Upolu Island in Samoa.

Etymology

The specific epithet bennettae is the feminine genitive of the family name Bennett, indicating dedication to a person named Bennett.

Remarks

Information on the species' detailed morphology and ecology is still limited and awaits further study.
