Philine trapezia Hedley, 1902
Description
A small head-shield slug reaching about 10 mm in body length. The body is uniformly vermilion to orange, with the head shield and parapodia matching the body in colour. The posterior projection of the mantle shield is not elongated. Some authors regard Philine rubrata as a synonym.Distribution
Originally described from the Australian coast. Subsequently recorded from the Seychelles and Japan, indicating a broad Indo-West Pacific distribution.Etymology
The specific epithet trapezia derives from the Greek trapezion ("quadrilateral"), in reference to the quadrangular form of the shell.References
