Description
A small tritoniid with a translucent white body, sometimes tinged pink. A pair of opaque white lines runs along the lateral margins of the dorsum from the base of each rhinophore, converging into a single line on the tail. The same white line extends into the central axis of each branchial tuft, marking the middle of each gill. The oral veil is modest in size and bears four pointed tentaculate filaments — the median pair longer than the outer pair — each tipped in opaque white. Up to six pairs of branched gills line the back.Distribution
Originally described from material found near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. Subsequently recorded broadly across the north-east Atlantic, with records also from parts of the Mediterranean.Etymology
The specific epithet lineata is Latin for "lined", referring to the longitudinal white lines along the body sides and through the gill axes.Remarks
Feeds primarily on octocorals (gorgonians and related forms).References
