Description

Ground colour yellowish green to bluish green, with scattered white spots and often black spots over the parapodial surface. The parapodial margin is ashy white to purplish black with a submarginal chrome-yellow line. The rhinophores are faintly blackish near the tip and bear a yellow band about midway. Typical body length is around 10 mm, reaching about 15 mm.

Distribution

The type locality is Oahu, Hawaii, based on material collected by the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842). Recorded from the Hawaiian Islands, Marshall Islands, and Japan (Takarajima of the Tokara group, Okinawa, and the Kerama Islands).

Etymology

From the Latin lobatus (lobed), referring to the mantle margin which Gould described as expanded into three-lobed lateral wings, i.e. the strongly undulating parapodial edge.

Remarks

Elysia tokarensis Baba, 1957, described from three specimens (about 15 mm in length) collected at Takarajima in the Tokara group in May 1953, is regarded as a junior synonym. The Japanese name "トカラミドリガイ" was coined by the 1957 study when he established E. tokarensis.
