Description

Ground colour blackish brown, densely overlain by fine pale-yellow to white (locally green) dots and rounded blotches that leave the dark ground visible as a reticulate pattern. The anterior margins of the parapodia and the posterior margins of the bilobed cephalic shield are outlined in blue, with a white inner band. Some authors separate the small-spotted Indian Ocean form from the larger-blotched western Pacific form as an undescribed species; both are treated here as conspecific. Reaches 30 mm.

Distribution

Indian Ocean, western Pacific and South Pacific. The type locality is Wasini Island, off Kenya.

Etymology

The specific epithet reticulata is the Latin for "net-like" and refers to the reticulate colour pattern formed by the dense pale spotting on the dark ground.

Remarks

Originally described as Doridium reticulatum Eliot, 1903 in the Proceedings of the Malacological Society of London. Aglaja phaeoreticulata Yonow, 1990 is a synonym. Transferred from Philinopsis to Tubulophilinopsis by Zamora-Silva & a 2018 revision.
