Ground colour white. The dorsum is greyish blue with dense white dots. The outer mantle margin is bordered with white, and yellow patches may appear within this border. A thick black line runs from the head through the rhinophores and joins behind the gills, but it is often broken with considerable individual variation. Black markings on the midline appear as either spots or lines. Rhinophores yellow. The gills are white at the base, becoming yellow on the distal half. Reaches 60 mm in length.Distribution
Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Western Australia.Etymology
Dedicated to the Filipino marine biologist Dr. Angel Alcala in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the conservation of Philippine marine biodiversity, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.Remarks
Morphologically very similar to Chromodoris dianae, with which it had been confused prior to formal description. The two species are separated by molecular evidence, external morphology, colour pattern, and internal anatomy. WoRMS lists the authority as Gosliner, 2021; this database follows Gosliner, 2020.References
