Description

Ground colour white. The dorsum carries a network of yellow ridges enclosing slightly darker polygonal panels. The mantle margin is rimmed with yellow. Rhinophores and gill leaves are white to pale yellow. Compared with congeners the ridges are sharp and the colour contrast is strong.

Distribution

Western Indian Ocean: South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and Christmas Island. The type locality is Wasini Island, off southern Kenya.

Etymology

The specific epithet wasinensis is a toponymic adjective referring to the type locality at Wasini Island, Kenya. The type material was collected by Cyril Crossland.

Remarks

Originally described in 1904 "On some nudibranchs from East Africa and Zanzibar, part III" (Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond.). The genus and its species were revised by Rudman 1978 in "The dorid opisthobranch genera Halgerda Bergh and Sclerodoris Eliot from the Indo-West Pacific".
