Description
A medium to large Arminidae, considerably larger than the related Armina comta. The most diagnostic character is the oral veil bearing numerous densely arranged white papilla-like processes. The longitudinal stripes on the dorsal midline are conspicuous, and the mantle margin is bordered by a fine yellow line. Rhinophores and gills typical for the family.Distribution
Type locality is in the vicinity of the Amakusa Marine Biological Laboratory, Kumamoto, Japan. The original description is based on Amakusa material; later records extend to Chinese waters.Etymology
The specific epithet papillata is Latin for "having papillae", reflecting the dense white papilla-like processes on the oral veil.Remarks
Considerably larger than the sympatric Armina comta, and distinguished by the dense oral-veil papillae.References
