Description

Ground colour white to translucent yellowish white, with the dorsum overlaid by milky white pigment. Cerata usually the same colour as the body but sometimes pink; cerata short, lying back along the body except near the tail where they stand upright. Rhinophores translucent pale brown with scattered yellowish-white and brown pigment, and a raised annular ring at mid-height and another just below the tip. The eyes lie near the base of the rhinophores and are encircled by vermilion lines. The animal moves with a characteristic anteroposterior rocking motion. Reaches 15 mm.

Distribution

New Caledonia (type locality: Pointe d'Artillerie); Australia (neotype locality: Nelson Bay, New South Wales); South Africa, Tanzania, Seychelles, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Midway Atoll, Hawaii.

Etymology

Latin alba, "white."

Remarks

Originally described as Aeolidiella alba Risbec, 1928. As Risbec's type material is no longer extant, a neotype from Nelson Bay (NSW, Australia) was designated by Carmona et al. 2014, who also moved the species to Bulbaeolidia.
