Description

Ground colour translucent milky white. Both the mantle margin and the foot margin carry orange-yellow ridges that are sometimes tinged red. Several longitudinal ridges run along the dorsum. Rhinophores translucent, with an orange-yellow band running from the central apex onto the upper posterior surface. Gill plumes large and comb-like, with orange-yellow rachides. Preys on the sacoglossan Plakobranchus ocellatus. Reaches 55 mm in length.

Distribution

Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Japan. The type locality is the Sudanese Red Sea.

Etymology

The specific epithet striata is the Latin for "striped", referring to the longitudinal ridges along the dorsum.

Remarks

Originally described as Trevelyana striata Eliot, 1908 in part XI of the "Reports on the Marine Biology of the Sudanese Red Sea". Analogium striatum is a synonym. Some authors regard Gymnodoris amakusana (Baba, 1996) as conspecific with this species.
