Description

Body white, rounded-oval and flattened. The dorsum is densely speckled with white dots and sparsely marked with brownish blotches. The rhinophores are white. Found under stones. Reaches 48 mm in length.

Distribution

Indo-West Pacific. In Japan recorded from Mutsu Bay and Akkeshi Bay (Baba, 1935, as Peltodoris mauritiana).

Etymology

The specific epithet murrea comes from the Latin adjective murreus, -a, -um, meaning "of myrrh" or "myrrh-coloured (yellowish-brown)."

Remarks

Originally described by Abraham 1877 as Doris murrea, the species was later transferred to Peltodoris by Bergh 1880. Bergh 1889 subsequently described Mauritian material as Peltodoris mauritiana, but this name is now treated as a junior synonym of P. murrea.
