Description

A minute runcinid only a few millimetres in body length. The body is elliptical and somewhat flattened, with a translucent integument through which the visceral mass is visible. The dorsum bears scattered pigment spots, and the living animal is pale brown to greyish in ground colour.

Distribution

Type locality: the Russian Far Eastern seas. The species may extend into the northern Sea of Japan and the adjacent north-western Pacific.

Remarks

Some researchers regard this species as conspecific with Runcinida elioti; further taxonomic clarification is needed. The Japanese vernacular has been revised from the earlier "Runkina-umiushi" to the current "Uzumushi-umiushi".
