Genus Aplysia 14 species
Aplysia Linnaeus, 1767 is a genus of large sea hares in the family Aplysiidae Lamarck, 1809, with about 80 species worldwide and around 8 recorded from Japanese coastal waters. Members inhabit intertidal to shallow subtidal rocky and algal habitats, feed on macroalgae, and most species discharge a deep-purple defensive fluid from a gland on the right mantle margin when disturbed.
