Description

A small aglajid with a brilliant blue overall body colour, the basis of the specific epithet. The species differs from related Chelidonura varians in lacking continuous linear black markings along the edges of the parapodial flaps. Common in shallow water on sandy substrata.

Distribution

Type locality is Dahab, Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian Red Sea. Records concentrated in the Red Sea and the wider western Indian Ocean.

Etymology

The specific epithet livida is the feminine form of the Latin adjective lividus, meaning "leaden blue" or "bluish-grey", in reference to the bright blue body colour.

Remarks

Specimens previously reported from the Red Sea as Chelidonura africana — a name now treated as nomen dubium — are referable to this species.
