Description

Ground colour translucent brown with white blotching on the dorsum overlain by scattered orange dots; these dots become continuous lines along the body margin. Cerata in four pairs of clusters, each ceras with a yellowish-white longitudinal line, a black spot near the base, and a papillose tip ringed in yellowish white. Rhinophores translucent brown with about four annular lamellae. Oral tentacles smooth, the same colour as the body, with yellowish-white rings. Reaches 15 mm.

Distribution

New Caledonia (type locality: Bourail), South Africa, Madagascar, Tanzania, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Japan, and elsewhere in the tropical Indo-West Pacific.

Etymology

Named after Bourail, the town on the west coast of Grande Terre, New Caledonia, where the type material was collected.

Remarks

Originally described as Aeolidia bourailli Risbec, 1928. Some authors place this species in Phidiana, but WoRMS currently lists Facelina bourailli as the accepted combination.
