Description

Ground colour white. Cerata are banded basally to apically with white, blue and golden-yellow zones, terminating in a black tip; the bright blue pigment in the cerata is the diagnostic character. Rhinophores are white at the base and brownish distally. Oral tentacles brownish. Feeds on the hydroid Aglaophenia cupressina. Reaches 50 mm in length.

Distribution

Type locality Malaysia (Pulau Tenggol, Pulau Varella). Also recorded from the Philippines (Mabini, Tingloy area) and Indonesia.

Etymology

From the original description (Kim, Donohoo & Gosliner, 2024):
Bughaw is the Filipino word for blue, referring to the bright blue pigment that is dominant in this species.

Remarks

Previously treated as a synonym of Trinchesia yamasui (Hamatani, 1993); recovered as a distinct species by a 2024 revision on phylogenetic and morphological grounds.
