Description

Externally this species closely resembles the colour-group of Doriprismatica atromarginata but is distinguished by a consistent set of colour features. The body is slender, with the mantle raised, firm, and strongly undulating, largely concealing the foot. The background colour is white (in contrast to the yellow of D. atromarginata). A single, irregular dark-brown longitudinal stripe runs along the dorsal midline, from between the rhinophores to a point just in front of the gills, and is the most reliable diagnostic feature of the species. The mantle margin lacks any dark or black border line, a further difference from D. atromarginata.

Distribution

Type locality: Para Island, Sangihe Archipelago, north of Sulawesi, Indonesia, at 10–15 m depth. The species has also been observed at the nearby Kahakitang and Mahengetang Islands, and is currently known only from the Sulawesi region.

Etymology

The specific epithet tibboeli honours Mr Hans Tibboeli, who provided the photographs used in the original description.
