Description

Body indigo blue. Parapodia bear black and pale yellow markings; some individuals lack the yellow component. Parapodial margin pale yellow. Rhinophores white with reddish tips. Reaches 15 mm.

Distribution

New Caledonia (type locality), South Africa, Aldabra, Réunion, Australia, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Palau, Guam, Marshall Islands.

Etymology

Named after Anse Vata, the bay south of Nouméa, New Caledonia where the type material was collected.

Remarks

The spelling Thuridilla vatae has been treated as an incorrect subsequent spelling. The Japanese vernacular Yozora-midorigai was later proposed.
