Description

Body elongate and slightly rounded. The dorsum is completely covered with small raised tubercles, some flat-topped and others rounded. The rhinophore-sheath and gill-protective appendages are flower-like — diagnostic for this species. Ground color varies from greyish white through yellow to reddish brown. Rhinophores translucent white to yellow with minutely bifid tips; gill also translucent white to yellow.

Distribution

Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Sulawesi, the Philippines, and Japan.

Etymology

The specific name flores is from the Latin word meaning blossom, referring to the shape of the rhinophore and gill protective appendages of this species.

Remarks

A small sponge-feeding dorid.
