Description
Background colour light blue, with scattered black pigment near the foot and at the base of the parapodia. The parapodial margin is opaque white. The parapodia are covered with scattered opaque white to cream spots or longitudinal bands. The head bears diffuse black pigment along its margins. The basal third of the rhinophores is opaque white; the outer two-thirds is bright red with a scattered patch or two of opaque white in the middle. The red pigment extends farther basally on the outer side than on the inner side, creating the appearance of a diagonal rather than transverse band — a diagnostic character. The anterior margin of the foot is blue.Distribution
Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Aldabra Atoll, South Africa.Etymology
The specific epithet albopustulosa, derived from Latin albus (white) + pustulosa (covered with pustules), refers to the white pustules present on the parapodia.Remarks
Most closely related to Thuridilla vatae (Risbec, 1928), and shares an enlarged pharyngeal pouch with Thuridilla virgata and Thuridilla moebii. Thuridilla vatae has a dark gray to black ground colour with black and yellow parapodial ornament, whereas Thuridilla albopustulosa is blue with white or cream parapodial markings. Furthermore, the red rhinophore pigment of Thuridilla vatae covers only the apex as a transverse band, while in Thuridilla albopustulosa the red is broader and forms a diagonal band.References
