Description
Mantle elongately ovate with a relatively broad overlap. Body and mantle uniformly white, with the mantle skirt somewhat translucent except near the edge. Mantle glands form a submarginal band. Rhinophore stalk transparent; club white with each lamella edged in bright orange. Gills translucent white, with the edges of each gill and each lamella lined in bright orange. Anterior foot corners elongated (probably tentacular and pointed in life). Holotype 11 mm preserved.Distribution
Type locality: Wang Chau, Hong Kong (9 m depth, September 1982). Subsequent records also from Japan.Etymology
The specific epithet hongkongiensis refers to the type locality, Hong Kong.Remarks
Originally described as Noumea hongkongiensis and later transferred to Verconia. Most similar to Noumea simplex (which has orange tips, not edges, on the rhinophores and gills) and to Chromodoris nona; distinguished from both by having the entire edges of the rhinophore lamellae and gill lamellae outlined in bright orange.References
