Description

A small Chromodorididae, body length about 25 mm. The dorsum bears scattered conical small papillae. The dorsal ground colour is yellow, with the conical papillae white. A continuous row of purple markings runs along the mantle margin, and smaller purple spots are scattered on the central dorsum. Rhinophores orange; gill leaves yellow with the tips tinged orange. The ventral body is white, with a few purple spots on the body sides and the dorsal foot. Radula formula 45×30.0.30 to 43×35-37.0.35-37. From the first lateral onward, each lateral tooth bears two cusps.

Distribution

Type locality is off Nishi-no-saki, Sagami Bay (600 m offshore, 17 m depth, August 1940, 2 specimens). The original description (Baba, 1949) records the species only from the type locality.

Etymology

The specific epithet sagamiensis is a place-name adjective referring to the type locality, Sagami Bay. The original description does not give an explicit etymology paragraph; the toponymic derivation is self-evident.

Remarks

Originally described as Glossodoris sagamiensis and later transferred to Hypselodoris. Differs from Hypselodoris maritima and Hypselodoris placida (described in the same monograph) by the yellow ground colour with white conical papillae and the continuous row of purple markings along the mantle edge.
