Description

A small polycerid dorid reaching about 8 mm in body length. The background colour is moss-green to yellowish-brown. The dorsum is scattered with wart-like tubercles and crossed by numerous dark-brown transverse lines. The anterior margin of the head bears a row of several appendages. The rhinophores have prominent lamellae and end in a small papillate tip; their colour matches the body. The gills are translucent moss-green to yellowish brown.

Distribution

Originally described by Odhner (1941) from material taken around New Caledonia. Subsequently recorded across the Indo-West Pacific, including Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan.

Etymology

The specific epithet risbeci honours the French zoologist Jean Risbec, who studied the opisthobranchs of New Caledonia.
